Genomic Breeding Value for Heifers and bulls/bull calves

Breeding value is estimate of genetic capacity of an animal for milk production and other traits of interest. Higher Genomic Breeding Value (GBV) means genetically better animals. This will facilitate farmers in taking early decisions for selection of better heifers without waiting for completion of their first lactation.

Bulls are selected based on Genomic Breeding Value (GBV), higher the GBV, better will be the daughter’s milk yield. Semen stations can use GBV for accurate selection of bulls/bull calves at early age without waiting for progeny test.

The Genomic Breeding Value estimation services are now available for Gir, Sahiwal, HFCB, JYCB, Murrah and Mehsana breeds.

Breed purity check for Indigenous cattle breeds:

Farmers, Breeding farms, Semen stations can avail the breed purity or breed percentage testing facility for procurement of animals.

The test report will provide the following:

  • Genomic Breeding Value for milk production (for Gir, Sahiwal, HFCB, JYCB, Murrah and Mehsana breeds)
  • Reliability % for GEBV
  • % Exotic blood levels (for cattle only)
  • Breed composition
  • Information on Genetic conditions like BLAD, DUMPS, Citrullinemia, Factor XI deficiency, A1/A2 casein types.
